How to connect the fiber optic panel for concealed mounting

To connect a fiber optic concealed mounting panel, mount the enclosure securely, route and secure the fiber cables, install adapters and connectors, and manage slack using the provided trays and clips.

Step 1: Prepare the Mounting Location

Determine whether the panel will be flush, recessed, or protruding in the wall or rack. Ensure the location is dry, accessible, and well-ventilated. For concealed installations, confirm there is enough space behind the wall for cable routing and slack management .

Step 2: Mount the Enclosure

  • Attach the mounting brackets to each side of the enclosure using the screws provided .
  • For wall mounting, ensure the brackets are level and secure.
  • For rack mounting, use the appropriate rack unit (RU) spacing (typically 19” or 23” racks) and secure the panel with screws .

Step 3: Route and Secure Fiber Cables

  • Insert the fiber cables through the cable access holes.
  • Install grommets to protect the cable jacket and prevent sharp bends .
  • Leave sufficient slack (usually about 1 meter from the cut end) to allow for future maintenance or re-termination .
  • Route the cables through fiber management clips or trays to prevent stress on the fibers .

Step 4: Install Adapter Plates and Connectors

  • Snap the adapter plates into the mounting plate, ensuring the fiber adapters are horizontal .
  • Clean the fiber ends before installation to avoid signal loss.
  • Insert the fiber connectors (LC, SC, ST, or MTP/MPO) into the adapters, ensuring proper alignment .
  • Engage any push-pull latches to secure the connectors in place .

Step 5: Manage Excess Fiber

  • Coil any excess fiber neatly in the splice tray or designated storage area within the panel .
  • Avoid tight bends; maintain the minimum bend radius specified by the fiber manufacturer.
  • Label each port and cable for easy identification and future troubleshooting .

Step 6: Test the Connections

  • Use a fiber optic power meter or OTDR to verify signal integrity.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and that there is no excessive loss or reflection. By following these steps, your concealed fiber optic panel will be properly mounted, organized, and ready for reliable network operation. Proper cable management and connector installation are critical to maintaining signal quality and ease of maintenance.
