Colors in a 48-core optical cable

A 48-core optical cable uses a repeating 12-color sequence for individual fibers, with stripes or tube colors to distinguish groups.

Standard 12-Color Sequence

The TIA-598-C standard defines the following 12 colors for individual fibers: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate (Gray), White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose (Pink), Aqua. These colors are applied sequentially to fibers within a buffer tube or sub-unit .

Applying the Sequence in a 48-Core Cable

For a 48-fiber cable, fibers are typically grouped into four buffer tubes, each containing 12 fibers. Each tube may have a distinct outer color (e.g., Blue, Orange, Green, Brown) to identify the tube, while the fibers inside follow the 12-color sequence. For example:

  • Tube 1 (Blue Tube): Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua

Identification Tips

  • Fibers 1–12 are in the first tube, 13–24 in the second, 25–36 in the third, and 37–48 in the fourth.
