Reset the fiber optic distribution box

You can reset your fiber optic distribution box (ONT or Fiber Jack) using a soft power cycle or a hard factory reset, depending on the issue.

Identify Your Device

Fiber optic distribution boxes are usually installed by your ISP and may be labeled as ONT (Optical Network Terminal) or Fiber Jack. They convert optical signals from the fiber network into electrical signals for your home devices . Look for a small box on your wall where the fiber cable enters your home.

Soft Reset (Power Cycle)

A soft reset is the safest first step and often resolves minor connectivity issues:

1. Unplug the power cord from the ONT or Fiber Jack. Do not unplug the fiber optic cable itself .
2. Wait 30–60 seconds to allow the device to discharge residual power.
3. Plug the power cord back in and wait for the device to boot up. This may take a few minutes.
4. Check the indicator lights: Solid green or blue usually indicates a successful connection, while blinking or red lights may indicate ongoing issues .

Hard Reset (Factory Reset)

Use a hard reset only if a soft reset does not resolve the problem, as it will erase all custom settings:

1. Locate the reset button on the device, usually recessed on the back or bottom.
2. Press and hold the reset button with a paperclip or pin for 10–15 seconds while the device is powered on .
3. Release the button and wait for the ONT or Fiber Jack to reboot.
4. Reconfigure your network settings if necessary, including Wi-Fi passwords or port forwarding.

• Backup settings: Note any custom network configurations before performing a hard reset .
• Disconnect devices: Unplug all connected devices to prevent accidental data loss .
• Contact your ISP if unsure: Some ISPs require reactivation after a factory reset .

• Check the indicator lights to diagnose issues:
