What is an AOC?

An Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a cable assembly that integrates fiber optic technology with active electronic components. Unlike traditional copper cables that transmit electrical signals directly, AOCs convert electrical signals into optical signals at one end, transmit them as light through the fiber, and then convert them back to electrical signals at the other end . The “active” designation refers to the embedded electronics, such as electrical-to-optical (E-O) and optical-to-electrical (O-E) converters, which boost and maintain signal integrity over long distances .
