Fiber Jacket Colors

The outer jacket color of a fiber optic cable provides a quick visual cue about the type of fiber inside:

  • Yellow: Single-mode fiber (OS1 or OS2), designed for long-distance, high-speed transmission using a 9µm core .
  • Orange: Older multimode fibers (OM1 or OM2), typically used for LED light sources and short indoor runs .
  • Aqua: Laser-optimized multimode fibers (OM3 or OM4), supporting high-speed short-range data transmission .
  • Erika Violet: Sometimes used for OM4 to distinguish it from OM3 in high-density data centers .

Individual Fiber Colors
