Transmission Mode

Single-Mode Fiber (SMF)

  • Features a very small core diameter (8–10 µm) allowing only one light path, minimizing signal dispersion.
  • Ideal for long-distance, high-speed transmission, often used in telecom backbones and undersea cables.
  • Subtypes include OS1 (tight-buffered, indoor use, up to 10 km) and OS2 (loose-tube, outdoor/long-haul, over 40 km) . Multimode Fiber (MMF)
  • Has a larger core (50–62.5 µm) supporting multiple light paths simultaneously.
  • Suitable for shorter distances, such as within buildings or campuses.
