LC (Lucent Connector) is the most widely used connector for current optical modules, especially in SFP, SFP+, and QSFP modules, due to its small form factor and high port density, making it ideal for modern high-density network deployments . SC (Subscriber Connector) is typically found in legacy networks. It is larger than LC and uses a push-pull mechanism, suitable for general-purpose networking but less common in new installations . MPO/MTP (Multi-Fiber Push-On/Pull-Off) connectors are used for high-density cabling and backbone applications rather than directly on standard SFP modules. They allow multiple fibers to be connected simultaneously, supporting scalable and structured fiber networks . Other connectors like FC and ST exist but are mostly used in specialized or older systems. FC connectors are threaded for high-vibration environments, while ST connectors are common in legacy multimode networks .
