Cable mesh tray installation method

Mesh cable trays are installed by cutting, bending, joining, and securing sections using specialized tools and connectors, ensuring safe support for cables without personnel load.

Preparation and Safety

Before installation, verify the tray type, finish, and dimensions suitable for your environment (e.g., indoor EZ electroplated zinc, 316L stainless steel, or black powder coat) and ensure all tools and accessories are ready . Always handle cut edges carefully to avoid injury, and never use the tray as a walkway or support for personnel .

Cutting the Tray

  1. Use side-action bolt cutters or power cutters for clean cuts .
  2. Cut bottom wires first, resting the lower jaw against the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end.
  3. Cut side wires next, starting with the top wire.
  4. Ensure all cuts are smooth and safe for installation. Tools like Cablocut can reduce labor and improve safety .

Bending and Forming

  • 90-degree bends: Use kits like RAD T 90 or EZ T 90, following diagrams for proper radius and width .
  • Sweeps and curves: Form on-site by cutting selected side and bottom wires, then secure the curve using the SWK method .
  • Cablobend: Allows flexible creation of bends and drops without extensive cutting, locking sections with clips and splicing to tray sections .

Joining Sections

  • FAS tabs: Insert the tray into slots, slide under tabs, and depress from the underside using a screwdriver or pliers .
  • FS41 connectors: Hook one side into the channel support, depress the connector, hook the other side, and add an additional FS41 on the opposite side for secure installation .
  • Y junctions and 90-degree junctions: Follow diagrams for assembly and hardware requirements, ensuring bolt heads are placed inside the tray to prevent frayed wires .

Installation on Supports

  • Use appropriate supports, brackets, or hangers to maintain tray alignment and load capacity .
  • Ensure trays are level and properly spaced according to cable weight and local electrical codes.

Final Checks

  • Verify all connections are secure and bends are smooth.
  • Ensure cables are properly seated and supported without overloading the tray.
  • Inspect for sharp edges or protruding wires and correct as needed. By following these steps, mesh cable trays can be installed efficiently, safely, and with flexibility to adapt to field requirements, minimizing labor and material costs while maintaining compliance with industry standards .
