How to wire the intelligent power-off switch in the distribution box

An intelligent power-off switch is wired by connecting its control input to the live wire of the circuit, using relays or dry contacts to handle the load, and ensuring proper grounding and safety checks.

Step 1: Safety First

Before starting, turn off the main power supply at the distribution box to prevent electric shock. Use a non-contact voltage tester to confirm that no current is present in the wires you will work with . Wear insulated gloves and ensure the workspace is dry.

Step 2: Identify Components

For an intelligent power-off switch like the KC868-H8, the main interfaces include:

  • DC 12V power port for the control module
  • Relay output ports (dry contacts) to control high-power loads
  • Signal input ports for sensors or triggers
  • Network or RS232 ports for remote control

Step 3: Wiring the Switch

  1. Connect the live wire from the main circuit breaker to the input terminal of the intelligent switch or relay module .
  2. Connect the output terminal of the switch to the load (appliance, lighting, or branch circuit) you want to control.
  3. Use relays if the load exceeds the switch's direct capacity. Each relay should be rated for the voltage and current of the connected load (e.g., 250V/10A for KC868-H8 relays), .
  4. Connect the neutral wire directly to the load if required, ensuring the switch only interrupts the live wire.
  5. Ground the switch and any metal enclosures to prevent electrical hazards.

Step 4: Organize Wiring in the Distribution Box

  • Route wires neatly: incoming wires on the left, outgoing wires on the right .
  • Use plastic ties to bind wires, keeping spacing uniform and wires straight.
  • Clearly label AC, DC, and voltage levels for each circuit to avoid confusion .

Step 5: Integration with Sensors or Remote Control

  • Connect sensor outputs to the signal input ports of the intelligent switch to enable automatic power-off based on conditions like motion, temperature, or security triggers.
  • Use the network or mobile app interface to configure remote control, timing schedules, or alerts .

Step 6: Testing and Safety Inspection

  • Double-check all connections for tightness and correct polarity.
  • Ensure the switch and relays are rated for the connected load.
  • Turn on the main power and test the switch manually and via remote control.
  • Verify that the switch properly interrupts power and that no wires are exposed or overheating . By following these steps, you can safely wire an intelligent power-off switch in a distribution box, enabling both manual and automated control of electrical loads while maintaining safety and reliability.
