For example, Guangdong Unicom procured 82 core-kilometers of hollow-core hybrid optical cables for the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cross-Border Financial Services Data Corridor, including fiber splicing, termination services, and auxiliary materials, with a budget of 3.232 million yuan . These fibers have been field-tested in live networks to ensure reliability and performance. The company has also collaborated with YOFC to test and deploy G.654.E fibers in trunk cables across challenging environments such as deserts and snow-covered mountains. These fibers provide ultra-low loss and large effective area, supporting high-speed transmission systems and filling domestic gaps in advanced optical fiber technology .

Beyond fiber replacement, China Unicom is strengthening its international and domestic network infrastructure, including undersea cable projects like the EMA (Europe-Middle East-Asia) network, which will connect Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
