To connect a smart PDU to an RS-485 control port, use a compatible serial interface cable, configure the PDU for serial communication, and set the correct baud rate and protocol parameters.

Required Hardware

  4. Configure communication parameters: Set the baud rate, parity, stop bits, and flow control according to the PDU's default or desired settings. Common defaults are 115200 bps, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit .
  5. Login and configure the PDU: Once connected, press Enter to access the PDU configuration utility. Use the default credentials (often ADMIN/1001) to log in and configure network or control settings .
  6. Enable RS-485 control: In the PDU menu, select the option to enable serial or RS-485 control. Some PDUs allow you to assign an address for multi-drop RS-485 networks.

Optional Configuration

  • Network integration: After RS-485 setup, you may also configure the PDU for TCP/IP monitoring if supported, allowing hybrid control via serial and network interfaces .
  • Sensor connections: Some smart PDUs have RJ-11 or RJ12 ports for temperature/humidity sensors, which can be connected simultaneously without interfering with RS-485 control .
