In AutoCAD or AutoCAD MEP, cable trays are connected by drawing individual segments and using automatic or manual fittings to form a continuous network.

Drawing and Connecting Cable Tray Segments

   • Manual Fittings: You can also manually add elbows, tees, or reducers if needed. Use the Properties Palette to adjust angles, offsets, and elevations .
   • Branching: Start a new run at any point along an existing run to create a branch. The software ensures consistent part properties and system assignment .
4. Use Snaps and Grips Enable Object Snaps (Osnap) and AutoCAD MEP toolset snaps to locate valid connection points accurately. Grips allow you to adjust segments after placement while maintaining alignment and elevation .
5. Risers and Elevation Changes In the Cable Tray Layout Preferences, select Automatically create riser at new Elevation to handle vertical transitions. Enter the desired elevation to ensure proper alignment with other runs .
6. Testing and Validation After connecting all segments, apply solution tips or validation tools in AutoCAD MEP to check that connections are valid and that the network behaves as a single system .

• CAD Blocks and Catalogs: Use pre-made cable tray CAD blocks (ladder, perforated, solid-bottom, wire mesh) and fittings to speed up design and maintain consistency .
