The main cable delivers power to the MDB, which then distributes it to:
- Secondary Distribution Boxes (SDBs) via extender cables .
- Floor electric modules or sub-circuits through MCBs, RCCBs, or other protective devices . This setup avoids the need for multiple direct runs from the service panel, simplifying installation and maintenance.
Installation Considerations
- Load capacity: The main cable must be rated for the total current of all circuits connected to the MDB.
- Protection: A main MCB or main switch is installed at the MDB input to protect the feeder cable and downstream circuits .
- Routing: The cable should be routed safely, avoiding sharp bends, heat sources, or mechanical damage. Flexible conduits or cable trays are commonly used .
- Compliance: Installation should follow local electrical codes and standards, such as IEE regulations in the UK or NEC in the US .
