Wiring of 8-channel distribution box

An 8-channel distribution box allows a single input to be distributed to eight outputs, supporting both passive and managed configurations with M8/M12 or 7/8" connectors.

Types of 8-Channel Distribution Boxes

1. Passive Sensor Junction Boxes These boxes, such as the MURRELEKTRONIK EXACT8, distribute power or data from a single input to multiple outputs without requiring an external power source. They are ideal for sensor networks and field devices, simplifying wiring by using homerun cables to connect multiple devices from one input line . 2. EtherCAT Passive Distribution Boxes The EP9208-1035 EtherCAT Box is a fully passive 8-channel distribution unit. It uses M12 L-coded sockets and a 7/8" supply connector, capable of carrying up to 16 A at 24 V DC/48 V DC per two channels. LEDs indicate channel status, and the input and outputs are directly connected without intermediate electronics, making it suitable for powering smart servo drives or other industrial devices . 3. Managed Power Distribution Units (PDUs) Units like the M9538 provide 8-channel power distribution with programmable solid-state circuit breakers. Each channel can be controlled for trip limits, on/off switching, sequencing, and telemetry. These PDUs support high currents (up to 100 A), nominal 28 V input, and compliance with military standards (MIL-STD-704F, DO-160G). Managed PDUs are suitable for applications requiring monitoring, protection, and remote control of each channel . 4. Compact M8/M12 Distribution Systems SVLEC 8-way distribution boxes use M8/M12 connectors for easy field wiring. They allow Y-type splitting to double socket connections, reducing wiring time and simplifying signal distribution. These compact units are suitable for confined spaces and support screw or direct cable connections .

Wiring Considerations

  • Connector Type: Choose M8, M12, or 7/8" connectors based on device compatibility.
  • Current Rating: Ensure each channel supports the required current (e.g., 16 A for EP9208-1035, up to 100 A for M9538).
  • Power Source: Passive boxes do not require external power, while managed PDUs may need a controlled input.
  • Status Indicators: Some boxes include LEDs for channel status, useful for troubleshooting.
  • Cable Lengths: Standard cable lengths vary (1–10 m) and should be selected according to installation needs .

  • Use Y-type splitters to expand connections without additional boxes.
