Core Switch Bracket Installation Method

Core switch brackets are installed by attaching L-brackets to the chassis, aligning them with the rack posts, and securing the chassis using the provided screws while ensuring proper support and safety.

Step 1: Prepare the Chassis and Brackets

Unpack the switch and accessory kit, which typically includes L-brackets, screws, and shelf brackets. If the L-brackets are not preinstalled, attach them to the front-left and front-right sides of the chassis using the provided screws (commonly M4 x 8 mm or 10-32/12-24 pan head screws) ensuring four screws per side for stability .

Step 2: Install Shelf Brackets (Optional but Recommended)

For heavier switches, install shelf brackets and a crossbar on the rack before mounting the chassis. Position the support flange of the left shelf bracket on the front of the left rail, align it, and secure with three screws. Repeat for the right shelf bracket, ensuring it is level with the left . This provides additional support during installation.

Step 3: Align the Chassis with the Rack

Insert the rear of the chassis between the rack posts. Align the mounting holes in the L-brackets with the holes in the rack posts. For two-post racks, ensure the attachment pins engage all upper bracket holes and the bracket flange is flush with the chassis front panel . For four-post racks, align the brackets with the front and rear posts as needed.

Step 4: Secure the Chassis

Lift the chassis into the rack and secure the L-brackets to the rack posts using the appropriate screws. Ensure all screws are tightened evenly to maintain stability. If using a shelf bracket, the chassis weight should rest partially on the shelf while securing the brackets .

Step 5: Install Cable Management Guides

Position the cable guides to align with the L-brackets and secure them using the screws provided. This ensures proper cable routing and prevents strain on ports .

Step 6: Safety and Final Checks

  • Mount the switch at the bottom of the rack if it is the only unit.
  • Load racks from bottom to top, placing heavier components at the bottom.
  • If the rack has stabilizers, install them before mounting.
  • Verify that the chassis is level, stable, and all screws are fully tightened . Following these steps ensures a secure, stable, and safe installation of core switch brackets in both two-post and four-post rack systems.
