According to the TIA-598-C standard, the first 12 fibers in a cable are color-coded as follows: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua . For cables with more than 12 fibers, the sequence repeats with stripes or other markers to distinguish additional fibers .
The cut-off line in a fiber optic cable is usually marked by the color of the individual fiber or the buffer tube it belongs to. For example, in a high-count cable, each fiber is assigned a color within its tube, and the tube itself may have a color to indicate its group. This allows technicians to quickly identify the fiber to be cut or spliced without confusion . In some European or high-density cables, a 16-color sequence may be used for MPO connectors, including colors like Olive, Magenta, Tan, and Lime for fibers 13–16 .
