For aerial installations, ensure poles or support structures are properly installed and survey the span to allow for sag (typically 0.5% of the span) to accommodate wind and thermal expansion . Clear debris and level the ground to prevent stress on the cable.

4. Cable Handling and Laying

  • Clean fibers with alcohol wipes and lint-free paper.
  • Match fusion splicer parameters to the fiber type .
  • Leave service loops at street crossings and junctions for maintenance.

6. Testing and Documentation

After installation, test all fiber connections for signal loss and continuity. Document the cable route, splices, and terminations according to ANSI/TIA/EIA-606 standards . Proper documentation aids future maintenance and troubleshooting.

7. Maintenance

Regular inspections are essential:
